Once you know how many people are attending and where you will have the reception, you can meet with a caterer to decide on the menu. At some point during this process, you will get to pick out the christening gown or outfit for your child. Some families have an heirloom gown that your child can wear. Of you can choose to buy a new outfit. When choosing a christening gown, you can select a gown that is simple and basic, or you can choose something that is highly detailed and decorated. This is an important event in your child's life, and you are sure to find the perfect gown for the occasion. The final decision to make is what you will buy your child to commemorate this glorious event. You will want to choose something that they can always keep with them. A special cross or crucifix is a nice idea, although it can be hard to keep track of through the years. Another idea is a new bible or prayer book. You can then make notes in this book including the names of the Godparents and the date and place of the baptism. If your family is close to the minister or priest you can also document that information in the book.
